Ishtar

Ishtar's given name is Eti Zach.   She was born and raised in Kiryat Ata, Isreal.   Her mother is Egyptian and her father is Moroccan.   As a child, she was exposed to the music of her grandmother, a popular Egyptian singer.   Ishtar began singing at the age of 15.   She sang professionally and acted in live theatre until she entered the Israeli Army, where she served as the first female jet fighter airplane mechanic.   At the age of 24, she left Israel and began performing in Austrian nightclubs.   From there Ishtar moved on to Paris, where she became the lead singer for a group named Cauma.   Three years later, a French producer asked her to perform an experimental song combining Egyptian music with flamenco rhythm.   The song was called Alabina.
